Does Corder send my audio to the cloud?

By default your recordings and transcripts are stored on your Mac, in your own folder. On the free plan transcription runs on your Mac with a local Whisper model. Paid plans send the audio to the cloud for higher accuracy, where it is used to make the transcript and not kept in a dashboard. No bot ever joins the call. Corder is open source, so you can read exactly what it does rather than take our word for it.

Is it legal to record a call?

That depends on where you and the other people are. Some places let one participant record, others require everyone to agree first. Corder does not decide this for you and does not ask anyone on your behalf, so the responsibility is yours. If you are unsure, say you are recording. Most people say yes.

Question 3

Does the other side know I am recording?

Accepted Answer

Nothing appears on their end. Corder records the audio already playing through your Mac, so no bot joins the call and no participant tile shows up. That is a statement about how it works, not advice to keep it to yourself: see the question above.

Is Corder open source?

Yes, under the GPL-3.0. The capture and transcription code is on GitHub, so you can read exactly how it handles your audio and where it goes. Anyone can build it from source.

Where does my audio live?

In ~/Library/Application Support/Corder/recordings/, in a folder named after the meeting. Browse, copy or delete them in Finder like any other file. Delete a recording in Corder and the files go with it.

Does it record Zoom, Meet, Discord?

Accepted Answer

Anything that plays through your Mac. Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, FaceTime, Discord, Slack huddles, a browser tab, a phone call on speaker. Corder captures your microphone and the system audio as two separate tracks, which is also how it tells you apart from everyone else.

Which languages does it support?

Transcription covers forty plus languages and picks the language up on its own, including when a call switches between them. The app interface itself is English only for now.

Does it need an internet connection?

Recording never needs a connection. On the free plan transcription also runs on your Mac, so a meeting recorded on a plane transcribes on the plane. Paid cloud transcription needs a connection.

Which version of macOS does it require?

macOS 14 (Sonoma) or later, on Apple Silicon or an Intel Mac.

Can I export the transcript?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Transcript as Markdown or JSON, the audio, the screen video, or everything as one archive. The files are yours, in ordinary formats, and nothing is locked to Corder.

Is there a Windows version?

Not today. Corder is built on macOS audio capture, so a Windows version means writing that part again. If enough people want it, it gets written.

What do Pro and Max cost?

Nothing yet, because they are not on sale. The prices on this page are what they are meant to be. Everything you can use today is the free tier, and the free tier is not a trial: it does not expire and it does not cap how much you record.
